Block Study No.16 - 13" x 13" - Oil on Canvas Paper



















The set-up was lit with an incandescent spot just out of the photo to the above-left.  The red block was not going well, so I did a couple of studies of only the red block to work out the basic colors before repainting it in the block study itself.  That little side road really helped.

Made a few higher saturation blocks yesterday.  Using three of them I painted this study this morning.  The sun moved so fast, I lost the shadow pattern.  Lesson learned:  Paint faster or ... ?

"SEELEY'S" - 8" x 10" - Pastel on Wallis Paper
















Color Study:
The building is a landmark of sorts at the corner of
San Fernando Road and Glendale Avenue in Glendale,
California.  It's been up for lease and unused for
quite some time now... it intrigued me as the empty
edifice that it is. Thought I'd better make my record
of it before it's possibly torn down.
