Back to the Blocks - OCHS #2 and #3

Two Studies:  6" x 8" - oil on canvas panel - I've been ill with the flu, so I've been absent of late; here's today's post.  These were painted indoors on a partially overcast day with southern light streaming in the window.  Sun is low in the sky.

Basic Envelope - Figure No.3

On this one I drew the envelope first, added a few other guide lines, then attempted to draw the figure in using straight lines.  Even on the ones that appear curved, I tried to draw them in straight increments so they appear more curved.  I also used a proportional divider to help locate points after the basic envelope was in place. The figure si just a bit less than 9" high.

Basic Envelope - Figure No.2

On paper the figure is about 11" high.  3B pencil on paper.

Basic Envelope - Figure No.1

Basic Envelope:  On paper the figure is about 8" high.  I sketched it, enclosed it in an envelope, then compared it to my model, after which I had to correct the location of her right foot as you can detect in the drawing. I can see another location error as well (her right arm; close, but not right). My sketch reminds me of Degas' bathers. Very valuable exercise: this is a tool for constant use.
