Water Tower - Ink & Brush Pen on Sketch Paper - 5-1/2" x 7"

Smaller than real size, this water tower is a decorative prop at the Griffith Park miniature train ride. It's approximately 12 feet high.  The miniature train ride has served the public in Griffith Park since 1948. Youngsters of all ages enjoy the experience of riding the train on the Griffith Park Southern Railroad.  The track stretches over a mile beginning at the station, and takes riders past the Pony Rides, through a green meadow, through an old Western town, and past a Native American village.

Working on Planes of the Human Head, Profile View

These are all graphite on 20# bond, except for the skull sketch, which was done with brush pens.  The progression is from bottom to top; I did the bottom one first and the top one last.

Today's Sketch:  Graphite on Strathmore 400 Drawing - about 5" x 8". A statue of St. Peter at the Ponte Sant'Angelo in Rome.  Peter is oblivious to his charges and seems to be preoccupied with taking a selfie on his tablet.  The tourists and residence at his feet are oblivious to him as well.

Oil on Canvas Panel - 7" X 9"

Crop of original (below).

I think the design in the cropped version is better than the design of the original.

Graphite on Bristol - about 8" x 8"

My goal in doing this again was to eliminate as mush as possible the Western influence I've been subliminally inserting in my previous portraits.  (See previous post for a comparison.)
